The Kasmir issue

The Kasmir issue

The Kashmir issue is mainly in between india and Pakistan .This issue started from the independence from british rule in August  1947 . Maharaja Hari Singh was the then ruler of Kashmir. Hari Singh was Hindu and majority of Kashmir population was Muslim. But in October 1948, Pakistan sent its tribesmen who were knocking at the gates of capital Shrinagar which destroyed the hopes of Hari Singh of independent state. Than hari singh asked help to Indian military to help them out and from that help Kashmir was officially a part of the India Union. Kashmir was granted special status under the article 370 of India’s constitution. The article states that ‘non-Kashmiri’ Indians cannot buy property in Kashmir. The democratic development in Kashmir was very slowerd down in the year 1970s .
Than government has been reversed in 1988. The elections in 2008 were labelled as fair by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and had a higher voter turnout in spite of terror calls from the separatist militants for the boycott of the elections. The election resulted in the formation of Jammu and Kashmir conference which led to the formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir. According to voice of America, many analysts believe that the voter turnout had a close connection with the fact that the Kashmir population wants Indian rule in the state.
The population of the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir is more than 60% Muslim, making it the only state within India where Muslims are in the majority
But the 2010 unrest splashed water on such claims or hopes of improvement. Thousands of youths pelted stones on the security forces, burning government offices and train stations which thus led the ray of hope down. The elections in 2014 saw highest voter turnout in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. But the analysts have discarded any possibilities of the population favouring Indian rule, they rather have come up with conclusion that the population had a demand for a better life quality in the valley.Than after an opinion poll was conducted by chatham house international affairs think tank found that in the Kashmir valley , in that poll mainly muslims areas and Indian Kashmir and found that independence caries 74% to 95% in its districts
